Dead Malls Season 6 Episode 15 - Marion Centre Mall
Marion Centre Mall
Or as locals might know it,, Southland Mall. Might surprise some, as it is actually one of the older shopping centers in the state of Ohio. And still relatively unheard of.. Built and opened in 1969, Southland like many of the other malls around the area was built to scale for its growing city of Marion. Originally an open air complex anchored by Sears, and JCPenney. Southland Mall would be fully enclosed and renovated in 1978, and given its 3rd anchor, Elder Beerman. Throughout the 80s into the 90s the mall would soldier on as THE shopping destination in the area. But like every old ill positioned mall, it was not built for the freeway.. Marion’s retail push just like Woodland Mall left Southland, and instead began to focus more on the cities east side near the new freeway. And Southland, in an age of anchor rot, old tenant rot, bankruptcies, changing demographics and trends, and online shopping. Stood no chance.. Today, the mall sits with a new name, lifeless and empty. The theater being the only thing keeping it open… While here I wanted to be sure that I was able to capture ALL of its dead, liminal sights.

Dead Malls Season 6 Episode 14 - Woodland Mall (OH)
Переглядів 6 тис.21 день тому
Nothing says small town comfort, like a small warm golden mall. And Woodland Mall, in Bowling Green, Ohio was all that and so much more.. I fell in love with Woodland the second I saw its silver finished tiles which coated the malls food court pillars, and exterior entrances. This aesthetic overload continued throughout the malls food court and many different wings. Ceilings of which lined in m...

Dead Malls Season 6 Episode 12 - East Hills Shopping Center
Переглядів 18 тис.2 місяці тому
In the sleepy city of St. Jo MO, lies a small, very modern mall, that of which is completely dead.. Kept open by JCP, Maurice’s, and a lone Bath and Body Works, is East Hills Mall. A beautiful, and fascinating mall. A mall which told its elaborate history through the jagged architecture. Despite all of the modern renovations, East Hills Mall still retains its 1960s roots, as the very first mall...

words cannot describe the hypnotic experience of walking through Keosippi, showered only in a glow of gold. everything in the mall is original to 1969.. While walking thru, Alan Parson Projects ‘Time’ echoed up and down the corridors, reverbed. an experience I will never forget… when I first walked in, I encountered the only other soul in the otherwise barren mall (there’s no stores), an older ...

Up next! Ahhhh yes finally, a small town mall, back to my grass roots!😌 Village Square Mall was one of those that I just prayed would be open, as we drove up to it from the outside,, completely dead.. Since the early 2000s VSM has become merely a ghost of the thriving community hub it once was. At one time featuring stores like Playland, Browns Drug, Disc Jockey, GNC, DEB, Bath and Body, and Ra...

Hey North - This is a great birthday gift for you to film this! Valley West didn't ever have a Scheel's in it. I remember the food court was in the 1990s. Had Taco Bell, McDonald's, Sbarro, Maid-Rite, and Dairy Queen. I know at one point they had a Blaze Pizza and a Jimmy John's.

My mom owned the Benetton back in the late eighties and early nineties. Totally spent my childhood at this mall. Frankly it kills me that this mall is just barely making it. Jeez, hard to watch - so many emotions.

when i was younger, in the late 2000s, we used to visit the t-mobile right next to the playground where my siblings would play while my mom would be dealing with t-mobile. 🤣 even then it was kind of dying but not as empty as it is now 💔 was so sad when i entered years later to see that they had completely removed the fountain. we used to throw pennies in all the time wishing for what kids wish for. i remember my mom used to park by the side of the playground entrance to make me run in to buy some wetzel's pretzels for her ! what a wave of nostalgia, gosh. thank you for your time/care and recording this for the rest of time !

I grew up with this mall. It’s been demolished now and it broke my heart to watch it happen for nothing of similar value to soon replace it. My mom, aunt and uncle worked at the mall in the 80’s and early 90’s. I remember back to school shopping here, family pictures at the JC Penny. The smell of the earth in the big planter pots with all the real plants. The sound my grandma’s heels made on the brick walkways. I’ll miss it.

Worked for Sears from 87 to 89 north side of the mall was always the dead side. The unit next to the Sears was a shoe repair place the other unit was a arcade. Woolworth was not by the food court it was a few units down on the south side of Sears which they turn into multiple units

Always a thumbs up to CDogg, but you keep me up late and I'm old, I often binge watch till three AM. Forgive me for intruding onto your personal business but you have such a talented way with people, give up UBER eats or whatever and get your real estate license, with your personality and control of the language you could be leasing commercial buildings to people.❤ Love ya Dogg!

As the guy you talked to brought up( and it had never occurred to me until he mentioned it ) one still has to worry about paying shipping and of it doesn't fit sending it back until ots right. Also thete is the risk of actually recieving the quality of product you order ( and receiving it at all ). This would lead to the supposition that malls would still have a place in our economy.

Since earth is moving with our Galaxy at 124 million miles per hour , all those memories are literally billions of miles behind us. Kind of amazing.❤ How fickle are our dreams even if we are fortunate enough to achieve them.

oops! I think I saw Siren head posing as a parking lot light, and I also heard him. Spooky stuff.❤You have to wonder how do they keep the lights on until the last tiny lonely shop closes and the last wet ceiling tile falls in a splatter? The place literally reminds you of a funeral home with no body.

Thank you for doing this video. I was born in st.joe in 1981, I grew up going to the mall. My parents have pictures of themselves with the mall construction behind them back in the 70's. There used to be a fresh flower shop in the middle of the floor just outside the food court. it looked like a big black tent. every time we went my mom let me get a carnation or two. right outside Woolworths there was a child size ferris wheel that my grandpa would let me go on. On Halloween all the kids in town went to the mall and walked on the stage with the water around it in their costumes to see who would win after they had walked around to every store who gave out candy. I got 2nd place one year with my dancing flower costume ( old toy that would move and make noise when you made noise at it). the boy who won that year had a ufo on suspenders that lit up. KB Toys, A&W for mini corndogs and root beer were the best places to go. As a teen we all had to go to genos pizza, Mr. Bulkys ( they had every candy you could think of, we often went in to see him he was an awesome guy) and Debs is where all the girls got their prom dresses. that mystery wall with the question mark used to be taco Johns another teen hang out in 1999-2000. this video brought back some memories. Steve Craig plans to make it into a sports complex as far as I know. not sure when. Its so very sad to see it fade away like this. But all good things must come to an end. The mall in Kansas city with the hot air balloons was hard to see go too. thanks again for the walk down memory lane.

This mall opened in 1981 is beautiful! The wooden store fronts plus the wooden accents in the sky lights really wonderful. Could've been a 3 story mall as high as the sky lights. Reminds me of the renovation of our Eastland Mall opened same yr 1981. The exterior still looks the same as it did 43 yrs ago in Evansville, IN. It's still thriving more packed as Thanksgiving and Christmas comes. But I did notice some empty spaces. Sad about Stratford Square Mall in Chicago. Beautiful wooden accents.

I remember what a big deal this mall was when the rest of the mall opened after Biggs. They never ever filled all those stores and that was baffling. It was definitely set up to fail along with all those different owners. When Biggs left, I knew that was it. Media Play was the spot and that leaving was so bad for the mall.

I hated seeing the decline of this mall. Especially when Dillards decided to become an outlet. They never had a good developer who knew what to do with the space. We are still waiting to see what they are going to do with the mall. There is all this talk and nothing.

Marion Local Here.... It used to be an old Pizza Joint ( cant remember the name but it wasnt a chain brand). JoAnn Fabircs is now closed as well.... As far as I know, the Nail Salon and the Cinema are the only things that are still open. The Storefront at timestamp 10:45 used to be an Electronics Store Called Rex Electronics which went out of business and then it became a Sears Hometown shortly after Sears Closed its Doors.

I lived in Spring in the 90s. One time an HPD officer was shot at Gunspoint. I was at the intersection of 1960 and Kuykendahl and literally 20 police, sheriffs, constables, etc came from all directions and turned south on Kuykendahl. It was nuts.

I'm so glad I was able to experience this mall when it was just before entering it's dying phase. I have serious core memories from going there in middle school on band trips, and marveling at the fact that such a space existed in a downtown area (Des Moines downtown was laughable when considering a whole mall).. Of course we had Valley West, and Merle Hay (my "home mall"), Either way, the memory remains.

Such a waste if they actually start tearing malls down. Give them to the community. Dog park, skate park, music venue. Sky is the limit
